What The Papers Said

Yeomen on Parade

A colourful and competent performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Yeomen of the Guard entertained an audience of around 100 with a mixture of comedy and sadness at the Regent Centre.

The strong voice of Terence Trickett in the lead role of Colonel Fairfax brings a considerable degree of authority to this Christchurch Gilbert and Sullivan Society presentation.

Entirely at home in the role of Wilfred Shadbolt is Derek Blake whose scenes with the excellent Paul Morton, as jester Jack Point, provide some of the hightlights of the show.

The dialogue is both funny and sad simultaneously as the two slightly pathetic characters struggle through life.

Suzanne McCall, as Elsie Maynard, puts in a sterling performance. Her rendering of 'Tis done I am a Bride is a highlight.

A good supporting cast of singers in the choruses of Yeomen and Citizens adds to the entertainment.

Society director Nigel Finch has produced a successful production that deserves to draw big crowds until it ends on Saturday night.
